While there is still a bit of spring left, I would like to share swatches of two new spring colors for 2013 from Piggy Paint water based nail polish. Peace of Cake is a peach color and Mer-maid in the Shade is a blue color.
Piggy Paint Peace of Cake (Peachy Coral) Swatch
Peace of Cake by Piggy Paint is a vibrant peach coral color with a creme finish. But unlike its name, it’s not a piece of cake to apply! The color went on streaky. With each additional layer I hoped to cover up the streaks. But after three coats it still was not completely smooth. Shown above is 3 coats of Peace of Cake. I have also been having trouble with vertical ridges on my nails lately, so part of the unevenness is due to that.
If you own a solid white water-based nail polish, I would recommend starting with one layer of white and letting it dry completely. Then apply two very thin layers of peach coral. For long-lasting results, use Piggy Paint base coat and top coat, as well. The base coats from water based brands do not help to even out the surface of the nail, they simply act as a super thin adhesive layer to glue on the polish.
Despite the difficulty in application, I really like the Peace of Cake peachy coral color! I think it would be a great contrast to tan skin this summer time. I’m planning to wear this bright, almost neon shade, on my toenails to a beach party this weekend. The color reminds me of a peach Creamsicle.
Piggy Paint Mer-maid in the Shade (Ocean Blue) Swatch
Piggy Paint’s Mer-maid in the Shade is described as an ocean blue. The color applies very opaque, so you only need to use super thin layers. Mer-maid in the Shade has a creme finish, with no sparkles or shimmer. Shown above is two coats. There was still a slight VNL, but I did not want to mess up the texture by adding another layer.
Mer-maid in the Shade is another beautiful saturated blue, to add to my collection. If Peace of Cake is the color of a peach Creamsicle, then Mer-maid in the Shade is more of a blueberry Popsicle.
If I had to choose between the two of these spring nail polish colors, I would go with Peace of Cake, since it is different from any other water-based nail polish that I own.
