Beauty how to: Simple stripe nail art

I am always looking for easy ways to do my nails! As much as I love having my nails painted with a fresh coat of my fave shades (something I commit to doing myself about once a week), it does take a good half hour out of my day where I need to sit down and not. touch. a. thing! Which sounds easy in principle, but sometimes I just don’t have the time. And as a slight perfectionist, if just one of my nails is just the tiniest bit smudged, I’m going to have to do it again.

So when I saw this cute little nail art idea, I jumped at the chance to try it out. This easy and effective idea was seen on the Tracy Reese SS16 catwalk at New York Fashion Week earlier this year and was dubbed ‘the unmanicured manicure’. Adding just a splash of colour to a bare nail in a way that is way more modern than the old favourite coloured french tip. I love how the single stripe in the middle of the nail just adds the right pop of bright colour — perfect to try out in Summer!

This fun and fresh mani idea was super easy to achieve, and the best part? I used so little nail polish that it dried in about ten minutes! No hanging around with idle fingers waiting for your nails to dry, more time spent enjoying the sunshine!

What you’ll need:

  • A nail polish base coat
  • Brightly coloured nail polish of your choice!

Directions:

  1. Starting off with a bare and well manicured nail, apply 1-2 coats of your base coat. I used one with a very slight pink hue; however, a clear base coat is also fine.
  2. Let your base coat dry. Then, using your bright nail polish, paint a single stripe across your nail. This may seem scary for those of us without steady hands, but believe me it works out great! Take note of your nail polish brush, though, as this will work best with something that is a bit more dense.
  3. And you’re done! It’s that easy, plus it dries in a jiffy.
